RVYC’s Second 2020 Cruising Dinner
Conquering a Few Bumps to Kathmandu
In August and September 2019, intrepid RVYC members Ron Jewula and Dunnery Best switched from sailing and racing to cycling across the top of India and Nepal through the Himalayas. They started in Mulbeck near Srinagar and ended in Kathmandu, pedaling over seven alpine passes between 12,000 and 17,600 ft high. The ride took two months, was 3,200km long, and involved more than 35,000m of climbing
They pumped their legs the length of the Spiti Valley and visited these famous towns:
They dealt with the challenges of temperature extremes, learned the local rules of the road and “enjoyed” rice and dahl at every meal. The presentation will include a discussion on the challenges of cycling at high altitudes.
