Phase II Opening of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club

In the past week the Provincial Health Officer has allowed the opening of Food and Beverage outlets and offices under very strict guidelines. The Royal Victoria Yacht Club is a relatively controlled environment so we have decided to proceed with a soft opening for members and their families.

As directed by BC Health and WorkSafeBC we have created a thorough safety plan to keep members and staff safe which can be viewed here. This plan has been reviewed by the Risk Assessment Committee and Board of Directors but will be adapted as guidelines change. All members are reminded that they are expected to follow these rules and directions as set by the Board and staff.

The following summary will walk you through each space of the Club and Program starting June 3rd:

Entry to the Clubhouse for members will be restricted through the main doors. Hand sanitizing stations are placed at all entrances and throughout the Club and members are asked to use them when entering the building. We ask that only two members at a time enter the lobby area. Please follow arrows for flow directions and social distancing:

  • Front Doors only will be open Monday to Thursday 9-5
  • The Patio entrance doors and front doors will be open Friday to Sunday 9am - 8pm.
  • All other doors will be closed to members

Club Office
The office will be open Monday to Saturday 9 – 5pm.
All members will need to go to the counter as access to the office is for staff only. Member payments via net bank or pre-authorized payment are preferred, but the debit card machine will be available and sanitized after each use. Cash payments will not be accepted at this time.

Food & Beverage
Open Friday to Sunday 12 – 8pm. The only areas open for seating are the Patio and Chartroom.
Patio furniture will be set up on the deck for a maximum of 50 persons set at socially accepted distancing. Tables will be fixed in place.
The Chartroom has a maximum capacity of 24 people.
We are only allowed a maximum of 6 people per table.

Take-out food will be the only option for the first few weeks of June. This can be ordered using the Club App or ordered directly from the bar between 12 – 7pm. Beverages will be the same. Food and beverage can be consumed on the patio, in the Chartroom or taken away. You will be given a pager to be called to pick up your food if you are seated on the patio or will be given a time to pick up the food for app ordering.

  • Limited seating will be allowed in the Chartroom Bar – 24
  • Limited seating on the patio – 50
  • Dining Room Closed - Will be opening in October. 
  • Tables will not be able to be moved by anyone except staff.
  • No seating at the Bar. Ordering only.
  • No access to other areas of the Club except washrooms.
  • Tables will be bare. Salt, Pepper and other condiments will be brought on request and sanitized before and after use.
  • Menus will be single use.
  • No congregating in the Chartroom or Clubhouse outside of your own table.

Meeting Rooms
The meeting rooms will be closed at this time. We do anticipate these opening in a few weeks with a maximum of six people per space.

Washrooms and Showers
The Clubhouse washrooms will be open from 9am but will have a maximum capacity of two people at a time. Members are asked to sanitize before entering the room and to wash your hands for 20 seconds before leaving.
Showers in Cadboro Bay and Tsehum will remain closed.

Long Harbour Outstation
The Outstation will be open for limited access on June 1st. The shower will be closed until further notice and the following capacity in place:

  • The Clubhouse – 3-member limit
  • The Patio area – 20-member limit
  • The docks are limited to the outside of fingers only (East side) Dinghies and bikes will not be available for members to use as we do not have the means to clean them after every use.

The playground is now open. This area is not sanitized. Members using the playground must sanitize their hands before and after use. 

Rental Equipment – SUPS, Kayaks, Martin 242’s
Martin 242's remain unavailable for member use. Paddleboards and Kayaks are now available from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm on a trial basis. Equipment must be booked through the website or mobile app at least 24 hours in advance. All equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis and must be sanitized before and after the rental period using the spray that is provided by the Club. Lifejackets (PFD’s) will not be provided, members are expected to bring their own. The sign out book and keys to unlock the equipment will be administered through the Sailing office.

Club Racing
Club Racing will begin on Wednesday June 3rd with restrictions. For the full return to racing guidelines click here. This will apply to the annual racing program, the Radio Controlled fleet, the Dinghy fleet, the Mini 12 fleet, the 2.4mR fleet, and for the keelboat & multihull fleets.Regattas will not be permitted at this time.

Club Race Team
Race Team return to training in June shall be in compliance with Provincial guidelines and recommendations. Single handed and restricted double handed sailing either with a household member or a single other designated or chosen partner is permitted. No contact or online briefing and debriefing will be used by coaching staff. For Race Team it is not recommended at this time that attending regattas of any sort be approved until possibly phase 3 or 4 of the provincial restart plan.
