Welcome to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club

 Join the Royal Victoria Yacht Club - fun, friendly and affordable; a place to race; a place to start your cruise; a place to have fun with families and friends; a place to get away! Founded in June 1892, RVYC is the oldest yacht club in western Canada. Programs and facilities in Cadboro Bay include:

  • organized racing (click here for schedule and race officer signup) and cruising activities (click here for scheduled events);
  • docks with moorage for over 350 boats and dry dock space for dinghies and small keelboats (click here for foreshore information);
  • a marine ways, boat ramp, workshop, change rooms, showers, and laundry;
  • a Clubhouse for members and guests with a lovely waterfront dining room and pub, lounges and rooms for juniors and private functions, including weddings (click here for dining hours and menu information; click here for rentals and catering).

Club facilities in Sidney's Tsehum Harbour include docks with moorage for about 85 boats, a workshop and planned new lounge.

Portland Island Marine Park Hosting

The 2013 Park Host program begins May 24 and ends September 22. If you haven’t experienced hosting at Portland Island you may wish to participate in this activity, whether it is for a weekend, several days or a week. The duties of the Park Host are minimal and primarily comprise of distributing park information upon request of visiting boaters (information pamphlets are provided); recording numbers of visiting boats; welcoming visitors; and answering questions. Hosts are provided with their own private floating dock, and have the opportunity to meet fellow boaters, represent RVYC and explore the wilderness areas of Portland Island Marine Park.

If you wish to volunteer and desire a specific date; or if you have not been a previous volunteer and wish further information, please call John (250-592-2720) or Terry (250-381-8006) or e-mail jstenstrom@shaw.ca or tcostain@shaw.ca   Reserve early as the available days fill up quite quickly.

Visit the cruising section of the website for more information and a map of the island.

Wireless Internet services for RVYC Members

The club IT Committee has now completed the final stage of our wireless (WiFi) implementation at Cadboro Bay, Tsheum Haven and Long Harbour.  WiFi services are available to RVYC Members in these facilities on your laptop or smartphone.  The wireless services cover the majority of each of the properties both indoors, and the foreshore and across the marinas.

A major benefit to this upgrade means that a single secret password is used for all three locations.  Many laptops and smartphones can remember this password, so one you connect at one location, it will automatically connect you at the other facilities.  The Foreshore and Office staff can provide you with the secret password if you don't have it.  Please do not share this password with non-club members as the club must pay for Internet usage if we exceed our thresholds.
