The structure of club memberships is designed to make it easy and affordable to become and stay a member. The structure is graduated, which recognizes that on average young families face greater financial obstacles for joining clubs than older people who have more disposable income. As such the entrance fee increases with age and there are options with monthly dues to keep the cost down. To facilitate this graduated structure there are a number of categories of membership, of which the relevant ones for a new member are outlined in the following table.

Note that a membership, regardless of type, includes both partners in a spousal relationship. Both have equal access to all club privileges although they only have one vote at club meetings. The children of a member also have access to club privileges subject to any age restrictions.
There are two main components to the cost of being a member; the Entrance Fee which is a onetime charge, and the Annual Membership Dues which are typically paid on a monthly basis. The following tables outline these charges:
Entrance Fees
Entrance fees are dependent on age and not the type of membership, although only Junior Memberships are available to people under 19 and after the age of 39 you must become a Full Member.

A Temporary Membership is available to those individuals who do not know anyone in the club and cannot find a sponsor (see The Process for Joining the RVYC below). The membership is valid for one year during which the monthly fees are payable according to the membership category into which the person intends to join. At the end of the year, should the individual join the club, the Entrance Fee is payable according to the membership category.
The standard process for joining the RVYC works as follows:
1.Typically a new member is sponsored into the club by acquaintances within the club. A primary sponsor and a secondary are identified on the application form who state how long they have known you and why you would be a good addition to the club. If you do not know any members of the club then you can become a temporary member for a year.
2.You complete and submit the application form along with the appropriate amount for your Entrance. A copy of the form is available here.
3.Your name is placed on an interview list and a date is scheduled for the interview. Interviews are typically held on a monthly basis.
4.Your interview is conducted in person at the Club by members of the Membership Committee.
5.When approved by the Membership Committee, your application proceeds to the Club Executive for approval and is also posted for member review (personal information is removed).
6.If approved by the Club Executive, and if the current membership is below the allowed limit set for members you are welcomed into the club. If the current membership is equal or over the allowed limit then your name is placed on the wait list.
7.If your name has been placed on the wait list you will be notified when your name comes to the top of the list and you are welcomed into the club.
No. Certain facilities are charged for. For example, hauling boats on the ways or usage of the cranes, moorage and dry storage and the use of the club sailboats. Generally the club charges less for these facilities than local commercial entities.
2.Whose age is used to determine fees in a spousal relationship?
With a joint membership the age of the younger of the spouses is used.
3.For a family of 4 where the parents are 32 and 36 and the children are 13 and 15 what does it cost to join the club?
The fees are according to the younger of the spouses, so in this case the Entrance Fee would be $1,017.39, regardless of whether a Full or Intermediate Membership is taken. The Annual Dues for Full Membership would be $968.94 and for Intermediate Membership would be $484.47. If the children are going to be on the Junior Race Team then they would need a Junior Membership with an Entrance Fee of $179.18 and Annual Dues of $179.18.
4.What are the advantages of my children becoming Junior Members?
Junior Membership is for individuals 18 and under whose parents are not members or for those individuals who plan on being on the Junior Race Team.
5.What if I don’t know anyone in the club, how do I get sponsors?
The Temporary Membership has been set up specifically for this purpose. If you do not know anyone in the club then you can take a Temporary Membership which gives a year to get to know some members.
6.Why is there an overlap in ages between Members and Intermediate Members?
The Intermediate Membership provides a limited membership at a reduced cost. Intermediate Members have full access to the club but do not have voting privileges and cannot serve on the executive. An Intermediate Member can convert to a full member if they feel these privileges are important.
7.Can I use my credit card to pay my Entrance Fee and Membership Dues?
A credit card can be used for the Entrance Fee but not the Membership Dues.
8.What happens to the Entrance Fee if my name is placed on a waitlist?
Entrance Fees are kept by RVYC in trust while you are on the waitlist. You can ask and find out if there is a waitlist and how long it is before you submit your application.
9.If I have a Temporary Membership when do I pay the Entrance Fee?
You pay the Entrance Fee when you become a Member. Temporary Memberships are only available for a maximum of one year.
10.As an Intermediate Member can I put my name on the wait list for a slip?
Yes. Intermediate Members can put their name on the wait list for moorage slips. If they obtain moorage and their boat is over 30 feet they must become a Full Member.
