John and Jackie McRoberts Win Silver at Garda
Royal Victoria Yacht Club's Skud 18 Paralympic Sailing Team, John & Jackie McRoberts, have just made a big step forward in their campaign for podium success at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. They won a silver medal at Garda Olympic Week in Italy, dominating their Italian rivals and continually harassing the winners from Great Britain.
'We had a great week,' says Jackie. 'We've never beaten Italy before so it was especially sweet on Italian waters. We learned a lot at Miami OCR this year and that experience paid off for us in Europe. The process really does work and we'd like to pass that encouragement on to all the racing sailors at the club.'
The learning continues. 'On the last day we were leading in both races,' says John. 'But a couple of small mistakes were enough for the Brits to get ahead of us. We'll never forget that. Watch out GBR!'
The team is in now in Holland preparing for Delta Lloyd World Cup. With 18 Skuds on the line and the Gold Medallist Australian team in attendance the racing will be even more exciting and challenging.
We'd like to thank RVYC for their continuing support and especially for allowing Stephen McBride to come with us as our coach. Steve is a huge asset to both the club and our team and an essential part of our 'Road to Rio'.
