RVYC Christmas Craft Beer Festival
On Thursday, December 1st, we had our inaugural Christmas Craft Beer Festival. We decided to call it the inaugural event because after the success of our first beer fest we'll be sure to host this event annually for the members!
85 Members joined together in the Main Lounge to enjoy beer samples from Phillips Brewing & Malting Co., Moon Under Water, Category 12 Brewing, Spinnakers Brewpub, Lighthouse Brewing Company and Hoyne Brewing Co. Passed hors d'ouevres were served to the members and a cheese plate was put out for everyone to enjoy. Closer to the end of the evening, Commodore Gordon Wilkinson made a speech to everyone thanking the vendors for their time and service, thanking the members for coming and then finally announed the winnner of the Turkey Draw. Dree Diamond was the lucky winner of the 12' turkey!
Members then continued to enjoy the livations until the conclusion of the evening, where the members then submitted their token for a keepsake RVYC crested beer glass. Each attendee received one glass, and a few bought a couple extras to complete their set.
A special treat we got to taste was Phillips' cask created just for this event! The beer was a spin on their Chocolate Porter. The bew master added cocoa nibs and Antiguan Rum soaked Bing cherries to the brew. The rum being used was an English Harbour Rum whose recipe was developed by their own in house distiller Laurent Lafuente. This was a big hit, with crowds gathering in front of the table.
Additionally, Sasha from Spinnakers attended the event with their House Dry Apple Cider and Honey Kolsch beer. We were so happy to hear that were still able to attend after their unfortunate fire incident at the Spinnakers Restaurant. You'll be happy to hear that the Spinnakers Restaurant is planning to open today, Friday, December 2nd!
