Cruising Dinner with Ron Jewula :: Cruising & Dinners
The Cruising Committee presents:
A short ride from Beijing to Istanbul or
‘How I learned to ignore the smell of Camel butter and enjoy its benefits’
Thursday, February 16, 2017
In May 2014, Ron started a bicycle ride from Shanghai China, heading for Istanbul. About 4,300 km into the ride, after crossing most of China, the ride came to a rather inglorious premature end. Ron returned in 2016 to complete the ride. He visited countries most of us can't place on a map, met amazingly generous people, saw cities with 1,000's of years of history, witnessed first hand the effects of Global warming, learned that not all that the West says about eastern countries is true, learned that Camel, Horse, Yak and almost any other 4 legged animal are all very edible, enjoyed! Starting off days by chipping the ice off the bike seat, riding through a sand storm across the Gobi desert, riding over the Ak-Baital Pass in Tajikistan at 4,664m (15,303feet), experienced continuous days where the temperature gauge hit 46C, learned that the Iranian police are incredibly polite and welcoming even when you run a highway checkpoint and they chase you down.
